Kang wasn't defeated by ants

This meme has been repeated so many times that I think a lot of people have rewritten their memories of the scene to believe it's true. There are plenty of complaints to be had about the movie, but this isn't one of them.

So, for the record, here's how the entire scene played out:

1) Scott as Giant-Man breaks the spinning rings thing that Kang was using to try to bring his empire up out of the Quantum Realm.

2) Kang is angry so goes out and starts zapping the rebels nearby, stops Jentorra's spear from hitting him, and redirects Xolum's beam thingy right back into his face.

3) As the rebels flee, Scott, Hope and Cassie confront him. Hope's wrist blasters bounce off his shields, hand-to-hand isn't very effective against him, when someone goes big and grabs him he does a little explosion thingy to break free, but at least the heroes are able to nimbly dodge his death blast beam thingies.

4) Kang still is generally unscathed though, and and he begins to gloat and monologue when the (Type 2 civilization) ant army appears and completely annihilates his quantumnaut army and empire's defenses.

5) Kang puts up his forcefield to protect himself from the tsunami of wolf-sized ants, and it protects him. One starts to penetrate but he reinforces it and blasts them away, and starts to make progress pushing back against them.

6) But then M.O.D.O.K./Darren appears and crashes into the barrier. He is stopped, but then he uses the purple override technology that Kang built into him (and that we saw him use earlier against a flying vehicle) to turn the shield purple and ultimately break it.

7) Without his big shield the ants swarm over him and begin to chip away at and break his armor.

8) Somehow he survives with only minor cuts, but his armor only has enough oomph left for one weak blast against Scott, and then he's forced into hand-to-hand combat.

9) Scott's not the greatest hand-to-hand fighter by any means, but he's still more capable than your average unpowered human (recall training montage from Ant-Man 1), but Kang completely brutalizes him (Scott does get a couple weak and ineffective counterpunches in though).

10) Scott slaps a bunch of Pym particle discs onto the power source, Kang panics and tries to jump into the portal, but Hope happens to come in and use her wrist blasters to knock him back.

11) Hope and Scott blast and punch him a bunch, which still doesn't really harm him at all, but does force him backwards into the failing power source.

12) The power source explodes/implodes taking Kang with it.

Like I said, there are plenty of valid criticisms of the movie, but "Kang was defeated by ants" isn't one of them.
