Could the avengers have defeated Hela on Asgard without causing Ragnarok?

It’s always glossed over that they caused the destruction of the entire PLANET to stop Hela. Like it’s a good thing that the population number on Asgard was so low that it was possible to just get everyone on ships and evacuate. If all this lore was on earth, that’s not even an option. We’re not destroying the planet as a path to victory lol. No way to evacuate millions of people and nowhere to go. Not to mention it would ruin everyone’s lives. In fact, most avengers movies are about preventing destruction on earth. So why didn’t they keep trying to attack Hela and stop her with their combined powers?
