Captain Carter's multiversal arc and The MCU's next POV Protagonist

I've seen a lot of hate for how much Captain Carter there was in S2 of What If?, and YMMV, but I wanted to just love on these S2 episodes that allowed us to revisit what has always been my favorite corner of the MCU. Carter experienced really interesting versions of CA:FA, CA: WS, and then a sort of version of IW and EG. Natasha's character and the will they/won't they dynamic she had with Steve being repurposed here was pretty great, Steve being basically the Winter Soldier and heroic arcs for Bucky, bringing in components of the Black Widow movie for the WS episode, and then her place as our relatable central hero... all of it was pretty great.

Folks always talk about whether Steve or Tony were the main characters of the Infinity Saga, but it was Steve's movies that always intersected with the Avengers, with Hydra as a part of AoU, and Civil War impacting IW heavily. Carter provided that for us here.

I think part of what the MCU always needs is a fish out of water central character who's our POV into the story. Steve provided that in the Avengers, and out of the supposedly planned new central trio (Captain Marvel, Dr. Strange, and Spider-man) only Spidey is easy to read as just kind of wowed by what's going on around him and just trying his goddamnedest to do the right thing regardless of the consequences. I would be so excited for some of the other folks we've seen introduced to start playing that role:
Sam Wilson as Cap

Kamala Khan

Riri Williams

Kate Bishop

Shang Chi

Moon Knight's Steven
