2 years ago on this day, I watched “Eternals” in IMAX Xenon 3D. How was your experience with it in IMAX?

Watched it in IMAX 3D at my favorite venue as usual: Krungsri IMAX Paragon at Paragon Cineplex in Bangkok, Thailand.

Well, it was a totally different and highly distinctive superhero flick. The way Chloé Zhao used natural light and capturing those stunning landscapes alone made it standout from other MCU movies. However, it felt rushed even though the pacing was slow. She tried really hard to get us immersed there with those characters. The problem was how each character was treated. Some of them didn't have enough screen time, not mentioning that they didn't really showcase those abilities each of them had that much.

Still, Chloé Zhao breathed a new life into the MCU with the brutal and cruelty of mankind that still continued for ages. This drama and tragic sides of the true world shone brightly in this movie. It gave you something to think about of how can we be perfectly civilized after all those dreadful events that was shown in the movie.

For the IMAX 3D aspect, the opening scene in space with their ship flying there was absolutely phenomenon by how they sucked you in into its world. Outstanding 3D depth. Felt like I was hovering there beside their ship. After the opening sequence, the 3D image was a hit-or-miss. Those depth and how eye-popping it'd been like that was gone. At least it still had a some cool 3D moments from time to time. The real problems were how dim the movie looked. I didn't feel well while I was watch it and after finished watching it. The dark image strained my eyes. Those 3D glasses made it even harder to see stuff that was going on the screen. Ended up feeling sick due to it. I know she wanted the lighting to be as natural as it could be, but it made the experience worse instead.

The expanded aspect ratio of 1.90:1 was good, although it was sometimes jarring with the ratio changing from shot to shot. It was unfortunate that I couldn't witness the 1.43:1 version of it. It was, nontheles epic. The IMAX dual xenon projectrors can only project upto 1.90:1 with the 2K resolution maximum. It didn't look that sharp and clear because of the projectors. Would love to see that beauty again in IMAX with Laser. The brightness would be much better for sure. For the image, you know how it's going to be, since it was shot IMAX-certified cameras: ARRI ALEXA LF and ARRI ALEXA Mini LF. They were used in “Dune: Part One” and “Dune: Part Two” they used different lenses, of course.

Can't recall how the sound was, but that climax scene had enough heat to satisfy my need of bassy sound with some low-range impacts.

Did you watch it in IMAX 3D or IMAX 2D? How was your experience with it? Would love to hear your opinions!
