Finally watched GOTG Vol. 3 on Disney+ !
It's been over three months since I saw it in theaters and then finally watched it on Disney+ two days ago. It's hard to express how much I love this movie.. it's a masterpiece which is so beautiful and emotional at the same time. It's a thing with me that I almost always enjoy and love a movie so much more when I watch it the second time.. and the IMAX enhanced experience makes it so much better !!
The High Evolutionary is such a menacing villain.. he's definitely one of the best MCU villains for me and Chukwudi Iwuji did a phenomenal job. Really loved Rocket's journey in this movie to thinking he's a creep and a weirdo by listening to Creep and then ending it by dancing to Dog Days are Over. There's many moments while watching which really make me tear up.. like when Rocket says it "hurts", later when he's crying after Lylla gets shot, Chris Pratt's amazing acting when Rocket "dies" but then comes back and also towards the end when he enters the same cage where he was taken by the High evolutionary and takes all the baby raccoons with him was such a heart-wrenching scene.. the emotion in his eyes and the feeling of not letting them go through what he did because he genuinely cares and wants to save them, suppressing his ego and finally accepting the truth that he is in fact a raccoon was really beautiful to watch. I know it might just be recency bias but I'm starting to think it's probably my favorite MCU film now (used to be Endgame/IW).
The music too hits hard in all these emotional scenes.. John Murphy did a magnificent job with it. Some of the favorite soundtracks are - Naming, Mo Ergaste Forn (Full version), The High Evolutionary, Did that look cool?, Dido's Lament, Into the Light, Who we are, All life has meaning, etc. Tbh, the entire soundtrack by John Murphy and the song selection in each scene by James Gunn is just pure perfection !
The last shot showing Rocket happily dancing with 'Dog Days are Over' playing really is such a heart-warming end to an amazing film and probably the best trilogy in the MCU. Can't wait to rewatch it again !!
