Where does Moon Knight go from here?

I've recently been thinking about 'Moon Knight', where we left the character by the end of the show, and what the character's future looks like within the larger MCU.

For anyone who has forgotten what happened by the end of the season, here's a quick rundown:

  • Marc and Steven came together and formed a bond, with them both merging their skills into one
  • Marc's wife Layla became her own superhero, known as The Scarlet Scarab
  • Arthur Harrow was defeated while Marc blacked out (Marc and Steven both confirmed it wasn't them that did it)
  • Marc and Steven got rid of Khonshu from their lives
  • The show ended with Marc and Steve living together peacefully in Steven's apartment
  • The post-credit scene revealed that Khonshu is still around because of his connection to Marc's other personality, Jake Lockley (who Marc and Steven are unaware of)

While I think there's a lot of potential for Moon Knight's future, I also think they've written themselves into a few corners and created some problems that might restrict future creativity. Here's how:

1) The whole "is it real or is it just in Marc's mind?" aspect doesn't really work anymore because we've seen other characters directly react to Moon Knight and his actions, making it clear that it IS all really happening. Layla has interacted with Steven, the citizens in Egypt saw the constellation lights at the end of episode 3, and Marc & Layla both saved several civilians from Harrow's men. I don't really see how that can all be explained away as just some guy in a mental hospital creating fantasies.

2) Moon Knight's suit and powers are far too OP, in my opinion, and they're pretty much set in stone now. Unlike the comics, MCU Marc doesn't wear a physical costume. The MCU Moon Knight suit is supernatural armour that Khonshu gave Marc (and Steven) as part of their deal. The show established that Moon Knight can fly, has unlimited moonarangs, is invincible as long as he has the suit, and he also has super strength. This is a problem because it mean Marc's only weakness is losing access to the Moon Knight armour. As long as he has that armour, he can do anything the plot requires.

3) Moon Knight's one big weakness is losing access to the armour through Khonshu, which could lead to a lot of repetitive storytelling in the future. Since they've established that Marc is pretty much invincible with the Moon Knight armour, I feel like we're going to get a lot more "Khonshu has been kidnapped" plot devices in future seasons and in other projects that the character appears in.

4) They kinda need to do a second season of 'Moon Knight' before the character can crossover into other projects, and Marvel's packed schedule means we're probably many years away from getting a second season of this show. If Moon Knight appears in the 'Blade' movie (or anywhere else) and they make a major development in his story, that could cause a lot of confusion for the people who just watch the TV show. Last we saw, Marc and Steven had gotten rid of Khonshu from their lives. Imagine how weird it would be if season 2 opened with Marc and Steven back under Khonshu's control, with no explanation given for what changed between seasons.

So, what do you think they're going to do with Moon Knight moving forward, and how would you address some of the concerns I have with the way season 1 setup the character?
