Black Panther 2 woke? What??

Don't get me wrong, I'm not a woke apologist who lies through their teeth pretending not to know what the word means. I thought She-Hulk was absolutely riddled with it with them presenting 99% of the straight male characters either as less competent than the women, as assholes, as immature, or as combinations of all those things.

And that scene where Jen talks down to Bruce-freakin-Banner and tells him that she's had to deal with her anger infinitely more than him was absolutely disgusting.

But you get none of that in Black Panther Wakanda Forever.

The story being centered around mostly female characters made all the sense in the world. Most of the main male characters were killed off (RIP Chadwick) and it wouldn't make sense to suddenly focus the story on other male characters like M'Baku or Okoye's husband.

Riri isn't new, she's from the comics and she's always been black and always been a woman and I absolutely loved the scene where Riri tried to make her struggles as a student about being black but then Shuri corrects her and told her it was simply about her being young.

The Dora Milaje kicking the crap out of a bunch of male soldiers was a no-brainer, I would expect a similar result if you had, say, a bunch of Black Widows vs those guys. Male or female, I see characters like that as simply being in a different league compared to regular troops.

When it came time for Okoye to fight against one of Namor's guys she was the underdog and could only go toe to toe with him in a mechanized suit.

Namor himself was absolutely terrifying and very capable. I don't know what people are talking about when they say Shuri was dominating him, even with all her traps and Namor being weakened Namor was still the one winning the majority of their fight. I mean he freaking stabbed straight thru her and left her for dead!

And Shuri only managed to win because of another trap she set. She couldn't even beat him hand to hand even after she gave herself so many advantages. Shuri wasn't made to look overly strong at all.

And some people also complain about agent Ross being the only main white male character? Seriously? We could have even done without him there at all. Why would anyone expect there to be many white characters in film centered around Africans and Hispanics?

Also, him being arrested by his ex wife, I'd say that would be the most touchy thing in the movie but she's Madame Hydra, you'd kinda expect her to pull a bitch move like that and technically those are the consequences you'd expect for him doing what he did.

So yeah, I get it when people complain about something being woke but I'd say Black Panther 2 wasn't trying to be woke nor was it really woke at all. There were liberal themes in the movie but not radical, just reasonable, and realistic, really.
