Why does no one outright tell Joy about Harold’s intentions and why she was never allowed to know of his existence until the end?

I’m only three episodes into Iron fist season 2 and it may get revealed to her later, but no one has still not told her about the hand’s threat to kill her if Harold told her about anything or about him hitting Ward on multiple occasions just because he didn’t obey.

Everything could just be resolved by a simple “Harold told us to keep everything secret from you because the Hand threatened to kill you otherwise”. But instead they constantly tell her in the most cryptic way possible that it was about keeping her safe and not even mentioning Harold. Is this bad writing on the show’s part or is it just to keep it dramatic until the end?
