Tired of the simplistic, black and white takes on this subreddit.

This sub(as most on Reddit) has turned into a pretty obtuse place when it comes to constructive discourse about the new projects coming out. Valid critiques and praises seem to be far and few between. Most of the conversation here seems to be one side crying “Marvel is going woke” or “Marvel is just virtue signaling now”, etc., while the other side just approaches the projects with a sense of infallibility and claims all the criticism comes from incels and “men who can’t handle a female leads”.

Realistically, yes. There is a fairly small group of men who genuinely don’t want to see representation and are just ignorant people when it comes to the complex sociopolitical topics of the new Marvel content. AND since Disney bought Marvel, there has been quite a bit of social heavy-handedness and fairly performative and inconsequential takes on complex issues facing society. Some of the ways Marvel is handling social commentary just comes off as vapid, corporate, disingenuous takes.

Now, I know this isn’t everyone. But I feel like so much discourse on this sub has just turned into ad hominem attacks toward each other and defensiveness about the new projects. Rarely do I see a conversation where two people have a constructive argument about, at the core, how to make these projects better.

Edit: Yes, I know that the internet and world today is like this. I was just venting. Y’all are condescending as hell, and almost more annoying than the people I was talking about in the post. Thank you all for the lesson in internet politics and sociology.
